Mollee Brown

Guide

Mollee (she/her) grew up discovering nature in the hollers of Appalachia, and her love of exploring the outdoors has never stopped.

Since founding Nighthawk Agency in 2017, Mollee has worked with conservation organizations and led birding tours throughout the world. She’s the producer of Life List: A Birding Podcast and writes for a variety of bird and nature publications. She also serves on the boards of Frontiers in Ornithology and Brooks Bird Club and, when she’s home, teaches bird and nature courses at a nearby federal prison.

Mollee’s tours blend birds with the stories of their landscapes — plants, wildlife, culture, and the oddball stories that make each place memorable. And as you’ll learn when you’re with her, Mollee gets excited for just about every bird that crosses her path, but especially loves a search for habitat specialists and evolutionary extremes.

Back home in West Virginia, Mollee, her husband, and three dogs live on 40 acres of reclaimed strip-mined land they named Vandalia. They avidly record Vandalia’s biodiversity while working on native restoration, and are always trying to increase their reliance on the land for food and other needs.

Mollee has loved photography since she started borrowing her grandma’s camera as a child, and likes to capture the experience of birding as much as the birds themselves. She also takes her passion for writing and photography beyond the publications she contributes to, and runs a blog on the Nighthawk website with stories from the field. Wherever you find her, she’s probably making herself at home in nature.
