A rugged landscape with picturesque sandstone cliffs and waterfalls, the Chapada dos Guimarães National Park is at the geographic center of South America. It offers classic cerrado and gallery forest birds. Over 80,000 acres in area, the national park was established in 1989 and is within the Pantanal Biosphere Reserve, and helps protect the headwaters of the Cuiabá River. The birding is phenomenal, and we’ll set our sights on trying to see species such as, Chapada Flycatcher, Collared Crescentchest, Coal-crested Finch, Chestnut-eared Aracari, Red-and-green Macaws and possibly Biscutate Swift.
